Upgrade your 2006-up big twin 6 speed to a full 7 speed transmission with the BAKER DD7. More than just another gear added to the mix for the sake of one-upmanship; the 7th gear enables the you to make full use, by way of gear ratio management, of the torque and power put out by the engine.
Baker did not make this transmission a deep overdrive, rather they shortened 1st gear and tightened up the gears to deliver an improved riding experience from take-off to top speed. The gear ratios leave you with smooth, crisp, continuously pulling acceleration from 1st all the way through 4th gear. Gears 5 through 7 are tuned perfectly for cruising at higher speeds. With the DD7 there are no big drops in RPM from one gear to the next, and no lugging the motorcycle off of a stop light. Just smooth, uninhibited acceleration.
Baker did not stop at just fixing the gear ratios. They improved the smoothness and crispness of the shifting by reducing the mainshaft mass by only having 1st gear be a part of the shaft, rather than 1st-4th gears like on the stock unit. This results in a 2,6 pound weight reduction to the mainshaft and a dramatic improvement in shift quality.
For shift smoothness, Baker sets a new standard in shift quality by borrowing the linear roller ball detent technology from their TorqueBox transmission. This premium detent system is part of the top cover assembly that is included in the kit. To eliminate gear noise they designed the DD7 with a 5 degree helical 1st gear pair, straight cut 2nd and 3rd for strength, and 18 degree helicals for 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th for noise control.
