Stock shocks on Harley-Davidson® motorcycles are engineered for the average rider weight solo. Add a passenger, touring gear, or a rough road surface, and you’re running out of stroke travel fast. The result: harsh bottom-outs, unstable handling, and a beating that transfers straight through your spine.
The RWD V-Twin RS-2 solves this with a drop-down piggyback reservoir design that physically separates bump zone power from ride quality damping. Unlike traditional piggyback shocks that simply add oil capacity, RWD V-Twin’s architecture creates a more powerful bump zone that works independently, so you get massive bottom-out protection on rough roads without sacrificing plush ride quality on smooth tarmac. This is suspension that adapts to what you’re riding through, not a one-size-fits-all compromise.
Every RWD V-Twin RS-2 shock body is CNC-machined from solid billet aluminium, then Type III hard-anodized for corrosion resistance and heat dissipation. There are no castings anywhere in the construction, no porous metal, no hidden voids, no weak points that fail under load. FK bearings at the mounting eyes eliminate bushing deflection and ensure precise shaft movement through the full 4 inches of stroke travel. The 5/8″ black-coated shaft is significantly larger in diameter, which means less flex under heavy compression and more consistent damping performance over time.
This level of overbuilt quality matters when you’re pushing suspension to its limits on every ride. The RS-2 is designed to survive Australian punishment, heat, and riders who exceed the design limits of standard hardware.
The RS-2’s Active Valve Technology (AVT) uses Position Sensitive Technology and high-flow pistons to adapt damping response through the full stroke travel. In the first third of travel, where most riding happens, the shock is plush and compliant, absorbing small bumps and road imperfections without jarring the rider. As you compress deeper into the stroke, the damping ramps up progressively, giving you firm control over body motion and preventing dive under hard braking or aggressive cornering.
The nitrogen-charged IFP (Internal Floating Piston) reservoir keeps oil and gas separated, which eliminates cavitation and fade under heat. RWD V-Twin fills every shock with Maxima Racing Oils shock fluid, a high-grade synthetic oil that maintains viscosity in Australian summer heat and doesn’t break down even after thousands of kilometres. The result: consistent damping performance whether you’re riding through the Adelaide Hills in 40-degree heat or touring the Oxley Highway in spring.
The RS-2 gives you 12 clicks of compression adjustment accessible via the top adjustment knob. Start at the recommended baseline setting (typically 6 clicks out from full firm), then fine-tune based on rider weight, passenger load, and road conditions. Running solo on smooth roads? Soften it up for maximum comfort. Loaded with touring gear on rough gravel? Firm it up for better control.
