Arlen Ness Big Brake Rotor Kit, Confidence Exactly Where You Need It

You roll up to a set of lights on your ride, and the bike settles smoothly, progressively, without grabbing or fading. Through the twisties, you’ve got the control to trust the lean. In traffic, you are threading gaps with precision instead of planning three bike-lengths ahead. That’s what modern, properly-sized braking delivers: not just shorter stops, but the confidence to ride the bike harder and enjoy it more, knowing you’ve got the anchors to match.

The Arlen Ness Big Brake Rotor Kit replaces the stock front brake system with a larger-diameter rotor and re-engineered caliper mount, delivering measurably improved stopping power and modulation across: Dyna (2000–2017), Softail (2000–2018+), and Touring models (2008–2024).

15in. Left Hand Front Jagged Big Brake Disc Rotor. Fits Softail 2000-2014 & Dyna 2000-2005.

15in. Left Hand Front Jagged Big Brake Disc Rotor. Fits Softail Street Bob, Breakout & Low Rider 2018up & Standard 2020up.

14in. Left Hand Front Big Brake Disc Rotor. Touring 2008-2013 & 2018-2023 ‘Special’ Models with Hub Mounted Disc

The Outcome It Delivers.

Stock Harley-Davidson® front brakes do the job, until you have loaded the bike with luggage, added a pillion, or you’re descending a long grade and asking more of them than the engineers planned for. Heat builds, feel goes out the door, and you’re hunting for bite that isn’t there. The Arlen Ness Big Brake Kit changes that equation.

The larger rotor diameter increases leverage at the wheel. So the same lever pressure generates more clamping force where it counts. You get a firmer initial bite without the grabby on/off feel of some aftermarket setups, and modulation – the ability to finely meter braking force mid-corner or in the wet, stays progressive and predictable. Heat dissipates faster across the larger surface, so fade under sustained braking (think highway off-ramps or mountain descents on a loaded Street Glide) is dramatically reduced.

It’s the difference between managing the brake and trusting it. You arrive at corners with more speed because you know you can scrub it cleanly. Two-up touring stops feeling like piloting a freight train. And in genuine oh-shit moments where the car doesn’t see you, the gravel patch mid-apex, you’ve got the capacity to slow the bike down hard without guesswork.

How It Works.

Arlen Ness engineered this kit around a simple physics truth: bigger rotors = more mechanical advantage. The increased diameter means the caliper’s clamping force acts farther from the axle centre, multiplying torque at the contact patch. It’s the same reason a longer spanner loosens a stubborn bolt, leverage wins.

The kit includes CNC-machined billet caliper brackets that reposition the OEM caliper (or compatible aftermarket unit) to accept the larger rotor, maintaining proper pad-to-rotor alignment without compromising ABS function on equipped models. Rotors are precision-drilled and slotted, not for looks, but to vent gases and water from the pad contact zone and manage heat buildup under sustained load. Material spec is high-carbon stainless, chosen for its thermal stability and resistance to warping when things get hot.

Installation is direct-fit: the kit bolts to your existing fork legs and wheel hub using OEM mounting points. No custom machining, no guesswork. You’re replacing the rotor, relocating the caliper with the supplied bracket, bleeding the system, and bedding the pads, standard workshop procedure for anyone who’s done their own brake refresh.

Arlen Ness supplies the kit with all necessary hardware and detailed instructions. Because the rotor is larger and the caliper is repositioned, you’ll likely need to re-route the brake line slightly to avoid kinking, that’s a zip-tie and five minutes, not a drama. And if you’re running aftermarket wheels, verify spoke clearance before ordering; Arlen Ness provides a fitment chart on their site, but a quick call to Rollies will confirm compatibility for your exact setup.

Fitment:

The Arlen Ness Big Brake Rotor Kit is engineered for:

  • Dyna 2000–2005 (verify hub compatibility on early Dynas — some ’99-earlier models used a different offset)
  • Dyna 2006–2017
  • Softail 2000–2014
  • Softail 2015–2017 (TC)
  • Softail 2018- up (M8)
  • Touring 2008–2024 (including twin-disc front setups; verify whether you need one rotor or two)

ABS-equipped bikes retain full ABS function, the system sees a rotor, not a diameter, so the wheel-speed sensor operates as stock.

Frequently Asked Questions:

The Arlen Ness Big Brake Kit is designed to work with your OEM caliper, the billet bracket repositions it to suit the larger rotor. That said, if your caliper is old, the pistons are sticking, or the seals are weeping, now’s the time to rebuild or replace it. A tired caliper will limit what the new rotor can do. If you’re unsure, Rollies can talk you through what makes sense for your bike’s age and condition — phone (07) 3252-5381, Mon–Fri 8 am–5 pm, Sat 8 am–12 pm.

If you’re comfortable bleeding brakes and torquing fasteners to spec, this is a home-garage job. The kit is direct-fit, and Arlen Ness includes detailed instructions. You’ll need basic hand tools, a torque wrench, and fresh brake fluid. Budget two to three hours if it’s your first time. If you’d rather have a pro handle it, any Rollies-supplied dealer or independent workshop will knock it over in an hour.

No. The ABS wheel-speed sensor reads rotation, not rotor size, so the system functions exactly as it did with the stock rotor. The larger diameter doesn’t confuse the module, it just gives you more braking force when the ABS intervenes, which is the point. If your ABS light is already on or the system’s faulty, fix that first; the brake kit won’t mask an existing ABS problem.

Not strictly necessary, but highly recommended if your lines are original rubber and your fluid hasn’t been changed in two years. Stainless-braided lines eliminate sponginess under hard braking, and fresh DOT 4 fluid ensures consistent bite. Think of it this way: you’re upgrading the engine of the braking system (the rotor and caliper setup), don’t choke it with old fuel (degraded fluid) and tired plumbing (swollen rubber lines).
