The difference between a Coastal Moto wheel and a standard cast aftermarket option comes down to manufacturing method and design intent. Cast wheels are poured into a mold, then machined flat on the face — quick, cost-effective, visually clean. Coastal Moto starts with a solid billet of 6061-T6 aluminium and removes everything that isn’t the design. The CNC cutter works in three axes, carving depth, undercuts, and flowing transitions that a two-dimensional engraving pass can’t replicate.
That billet construction also delivers structural advantage. The grain structure of forged or billet aluminium runs continuously through the part, rather than being interrupted by the cooling voids and inclusions common in cast work. The result is a wheel that meets or exceeds OEM load ratings while sitting lighter than the stock cast wheel it replaces — less unsprung weight, sharper turn-in response, reduced effort at the bars during slow-speed manoeuvres.
Coastal Moto machines every wheel to order in their Southern California facility, which means each design is available across a range of sizes and finishes without retooling delays. Gloss black, contrast-cut, chrome, or custom colour-matched — the options adapt to the build rather than forcing the build to adapt to limited SKU availability. Brake rotor mounts, bearing races, and ABS tone ring provisions are all integrated during the initial CNC program, so fitment is complete and correct the first time.

Coastal Moto 3D Wheels are engineered for 2008-and-later Harley-Davidson® Touring models — the generation that standardised brake rotor mounting and ABS integration across the platform. That includes:
– Twin Cam Touring (2008–2016): Street Glide, Road Glide, Road King, Electra Glide, Ultra Limited
– Milwaukee-Eight® Touring (2017–up): all Touring variants.
Installation is direct bolt-on using OEM brake rotors, bearings, and spacers (or upgraded equivalents if you’re fitting larger rotors at the same time). No machining, no adapter plates, no clearance milling. If your bike currently runs aftermarket wheels from another brand, Coastal Moto uses industry-standard mounting patterns, so rotor and pulley swaps are typically straightforward.
No clearance modifications are required for standard fitment sizes (up to 21-inch front, 18-inch rear on most Touring models). Rollies can guide you through tyre pairing and any necessary supporting changes when you call.
Coastal Moto’s billet wheels typically run lighter than the OEM cast wheel they replace, despite the additional material removed during machining. A stock Twin Cam or M8 Touring front wheel weighs around 11–13 kilograms; a comparable 21-inch Coastal Moto billet wheel comes in around 9–10 kilograms, depending on design complexity. That weight reduction is unsprung mass.
Yes. Coastal Moto machines tone-ring provisions into the hubs during the initial CNC process, so ABS-equipped bikes retain full functionality. The tone ring (the toothed reluctor that the ABS sensor reads) either transfers from your OEM wheel or is supplied as part of the Coastal Moto kit, depending on the year and model. Reflex Linked Brakes on 2020-and-later models work identically — the system reads wheel speed through the same tone ring, and caliper mounting remains standard.
You can, but it’s rarely worth it visually. Coastal Moto’s 3D relief designs are cohesive front-to-rear; pairing a deeply sculpted front wheel with a simpler engraved rear creates a visual mismatch that undermines the whole point of stepping up to show-grade wheels. If budget is the concern, many Australian riders fit the front wheel first (it’s the visual hero and the lighter-weight performance gain) and add the matching rear later. The anodised and powder-coated finishes Coastal Moto uses are durable enough for daily riding — wash them as you would any wheel, avoid acidic cleaners on chrome or polished faces, and keep brake dust from baking on. The deep relief cuts actually make cleaning easier in some ways (you can see where contamination sits and address it) and harder in others (intricate designs mean more surface area). A soft brush and pH-neutral cleaner handle it. Refinishing needs are rare unless the wheel sustains damage; the billet construction doesn’t suffer the porosity or oxidation issues common in cast wheels, so the finish you start with lasts.
