The Burly Brand Brawler Crash Bar is the ultimate way to safeguard your motorcycle’s expensive bodywork, and engine components. Crafted from high-quality TIG-welded mild steel and finished with a rugged black powder coat, these crash bars feature innovative, replaceable Delrin sliders that shield your bike from severe pavement damage without requiring a massive reinvestment if you go down. Engineered specifically for heavy-hitting V-Twin models including Harley Sportster, Dyna, M8 Softail, and Touring bikes, this versatile kit doubles as a comfortable highway bar with precision knurling for secure foot placement during extended highway rides.

Burly Brand Brawler Crash Bar: Protect Your Investment

You’ve spent thousands building your bike. Custom exhaust, tuned engine, and more. Then one moment of gravel in a corner, one distracted driver pulling out, and you’re watching your primary case hit asphalt. Stock Harley-Davidson® frames offer zero protection when physics takes over, and a single drop can cost you more than the bike’s excess.

What Is the Burly Brand Brawler Crash Bar?

The Burly Brand Brawler Crash Bar is a TIG-welded steel engine guard specifically engineered for Harley-Davidson® Touring (2014-up), Softail (2018-up), Sportster (2004-up), and Dyna (2006-2017) models equipped with mid-controls. Unlike bolt-on decorative bars that buckle on impact, the Brawler is TIG-welded at every joint, the same technique used in race frame construction, to create a single-piece structural unit. The black powder-coat finish resists stone chips and corrosion, while replaceable Delrin sliders (Part # BB10-3014B) absorbes impact energy. Each bar mounts directly to OEM frame points without drilling or modification. Available in Australia exclusively through Rollies Speed Shop.

TIG Welding Makes the Difference in a Real Drop

Most crash bars use MIG welding because it’s faster and cheaper. The problem? MIG creates surface welds that can crack under the twisting forces of a low-side slide. The Brawler uses TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) welding at every joint, penetrating deeper into the base metal to create a molecular bond that won’t fail when your 350kg bike hits concrete at 40km/h.

This isn’t theoretical. Stunt riders running Brawler Bars drop bikes multiple times per session, wheelies gone wrong, burnout washouts, 12 o’clock loops. The bars take repeated impacts without bending or cracking because the welds hold. That same durability translates to street riders: if you go down once in 20 years of riding, the bar that saves your engine cases needs to work perfectly on the first impact.

Delrin Sliders: Why Material Choice Matters

The Brawler’s replaceable sliders use Delrin acetal resin, a self-lubricating engineering plastic originally developed for aerospace applications. When your bike hits asphalt, Delrin has a low coefficient of friction, meaning the slider actually helps your bike slide rather than grip and flip. This reduces the rotational force trying to tear the bar off your frame.

Compare that to cheap nylon sliders that shatter on impact, or metal pucks that gouge asphalt and increase friction. Delrin also resists UV degradation and temperature extremes from -40°C to 90°C, so the sliders you bolt on today will perform identically five Australian summers from now.

Replacement sliders (Part # BB10-3014B) cost a fraction of repairing engine damage. After a drop, you unbolt the damaged slider, bolt on a fresh one, and you’re back on the road. No welding required, no frame straightening, no insurance claim.

Highway Bar Functionality Without the Bulk

Burly Brand engineered precision knurling into the top surface of the Brawler Bar, creating a non-slip footrest for extended highway runs. This dual-purpose design means you get crash protection and long-distance comfort without bolting on separate highway pegs that add width and snag boot heels during aggressive cornering.

The knurled surface provides a secure grip even in wet riding boots, and the bar positioning works with your bike’s natural ergonomics; your legs rest at a comfortable angle without forcing you to shift weight off the seat. On a 500km run down the Pacific Highway, that comfort difference prevents lower back fatigue and numb feet.

Critical Fitment Note: Mid-Controls Only

The Brawler Bar is designed exclusively for bikes with mid-mounted foot controls. It will not fit bikes with forward controls due to mounting point interference and control linkage clearance issues. If your bike has forward controls, you’ll need to either switch to mid-controls or select a different crash bar designed for forward control geometry.

About Burly Brand

Founded in 1996 and based in the United States, Burly Brand has spent nearly 30 years building a reputation for premium aftermarket V-Twin and metric motorcycle components that withstand real-world abuse. Unlike brands that focus on cosmetic accessories, Burly Brand specialises in functional performance products: lowering kits, handlebars, cable kits, suspension components, and crash protection systems designed for riders who actually ride hard.

Burly Brand’s engineering approach comes from a simple philosophy: the road is a brutal testing ground, and parts that look good in a catalogue are worthless if they fail during a 6,000km road trip or a parking lot tip-over. Every Burly product uses premium materials and manufacturing processes typically reserved for racing applications, TIG welding, aerospace-grade polymers, and CNC machining, then gets validated through real-world abuse testing.

The Brawler Crash Bar line exemplifies this approach. Stunt riders and street riders alike trust Burly Brand because the company understands that crash protection only matters if it works on the first impact. You don’t get a second chance to protect your engine cases.
Rollies Speed Shop has carried Burly Brand since the brand’s early years because the quality standards align perfectly with our own. We’re the sole Australian and New Zealand distributor for Burly Brand products, and our 47 years in the V-Twin industry (established 1979) means we only stock brands that perform exactly as claimed, no exceptions.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. The Brawler is engineered specifically for mid-control configurations. Forward controls change the mounting geometry and create clearance conflicts with control linkages. Attempting to install a Brawler Bar on a forward control bike will result in interference issues that can affect your ability to operate foot controls safely. If you want crash bar protection with forward controls, contact your nearest Rollies dealer to discuss alternative options designed for forward control geometry.
No. The Brawler Bar mounts in a way that provides full access to your oil drain plug and filter without requiring bar removal. This is deliberate design. Burly understands that if routine maintenance requires removing a crash bar, most riders will leave it off after the first oil change, defeating the purpose of having protection in the first place.
If you’re comfortable with basic hand tools and following torque specifications, you can install the Brawler Bar in your home garage. The kit includes all necessary hardware and mounts to existing OEM frame points. Budget 1 hour for a careful first-time installation. That said, if you’re not confident working with frame-mounted components, have your local dealer handle the installation to ensure proper torque values and clearance checks.
The Brawler is designed to match or slightly improve upon OEM clearance specifications. You won’t lose cornering clearance compared to running with no protection at all. However, if you’ve lowered your bike or run aggressive lean angles on track days, be aware that any crash bar will touch down before your stock pegs in extreme lean situations, which is actually the point, since the bar protects more expensive components.
Powder coating is significantly more durable than paint, but no finish is completely impervious to repeated boot impacts in the same spot. The knurled footrest area is designed to take this abuse. Minor scuffs won’t penetrate through to bare metal or cause rust issues. If cosmetic appearance is critical for show bikes, consider using frame sliders or protective tape in high-contact areas, but for daily riders, the Brawler’s finish will outlast your boots.
