Steve Cole & TTS: Pioneering EFI Tuning Since 1983
Before the words “dyno-tune” and “ECM flash” became everyday terms in the V-Twin world, Steve Cole was already deep into electronic fuel injection. His journey began back in 1983—decades ahead of the mainstream. While most of the motorcycle world was still wrestling with carburettors, Cole was tuning fuel-injected engines with computer precision. And not just tinkering—he was building tools and writing code that changed how performance tuning could be done.
In the early ‘90s, Steve founded TTS Power Systems, a division of The Turbo Shop in Inglewood, California. It was here that he launched some of the first PC-based tuning tools that allowed hot rodders to reprogram General Motors engine control modules. The original TTS MasterTune software wasn’t just revolutionary—it was personal. It gave builders the power to burn their own EPROM chips with custom ignition, fuel and WOT tables tailored to their vehicle’s exact specs. Corvette guys, Grand National tuners, even Syclone/Typhoon racers—all started turning to TTS for a competitive edge.
And that was just the beginning.
Steve was preparing to bring his next-generation EFI tuning product to the H-D® market when it his company caught the attention of Harley-Davidson® engineers at the SEMA Show. They saw its potential—and instead of competing, they partnered with Cole to private-label the system under the Screamin’ Eagle® EFI Race Tuner Kit. It was a pivotal moment in Harley® tuning history, and it planted the seed for what would later become TTS MasterTune as we know it today, the EFI tuner at the cutting edge of Harley-Davidson® tuning capabilities!
